In order to address the 20% unmet need for Family Planning, NCMNH is implementing an intervention for insertion of Postpartum Intrauterine Contraceptive Device (PPIUCD) at selected public and private Hospitals of Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi/Islamabad. The intervention aims to train Skilled Birth Attendants (SBAs) to insert PPIUCD in women delivering at the intervention sites. The ultimate objective is to institutionalize PPIUCD services.

During the scale-up phase, PPIUCD was inserted in another 19% of women who delivered during this phase (October 2013-September 2015). Now the intervention is in phase 2 and PPIUCD has been inserted in 26.5% of the women who delivered at the intervention sites during the first year.
